I have the honour to enclose a copy of a telegram
June/00 which we have just received from the Director General of
th June /00 Ordnance and of the reply which we have sent.

2. We have received no information from Hong Kong
respecting the return of these Maxim Guns but we conjecture
that they have been sent hore in accordance with the sug-
gestion made in cur letter to you or the 3rd of August last
and we would recommend that we should be authorised to
request the War Department to proceed with their conversion.
